Grillin

Bunch of friends came over, so we got our grill on!
Pumpkin, whole bell peppers, sweet potato, whole onion, garlic cloves, eggplant, cucumber, potatoes, white and green asparagus, huge slice of salmon, beef, beef, and beef, lamp chops, pork loin, shrimp and scallops, wife's infamous salsa and guacamole, herb wild rice, and onigiri.
I indulged in a couple of potato chips (wasabi-beef flavor: wasabeef! only in Japan) and for dessert we had fresh persimmon, pears, grapes, figs, prunes, home-bottled sweet peaches from a friend's farm, cinnamon, and finally some of the finest taiyaki ever made.
I ate too much, but was happy to have my appetite back after being not hungry for several days due to this random throat thing, which btw is completely failing to develop into a proper cold.
Eating lots of fresh grilled vegetables and meat, followed by fresh fruit, surrounded by friends and kids, is definitely the way to indulge mindfully. From starting the fire to cleaning the dishes, pleasant conversation never distracts from making sure the pork stays juicy, the salmon is pink perfection, the bbq rubbing on the steaks crystalizes just right, and the pumpkin is crispy on the outside and squishy on the inside.
Plus I now have a fridge full of leftovers for most excellent bentos the next few days!
